GHMC Makes Arrangements for Idol Immersion
For the centralised Ganesh idol immersion procession scheduled to be held on September 8 (Monday), the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is putting in place elaborate arrangements covering a total of 227 km across the city.
GHMC Commissioner, Somesh Kumar, told presspersons on Thursday that apart from regular sanitation teams, 122 special teams with 2,826 workers would be deployed to ensure clean and debris-free procession route.
Special ‘Ganesh Action Teams’ comprising a sanitary supervisor, sanitary field assistant and 21 workers would work in two shifts to clear garbage and waste. “Each of these teams will be assigned for 3 km to 4 km stretch and they will ensure continuous sanitation,” he said.
About 230 points identified for clearing of debris had already been attended to. Each of the circles has been provided with one JCB and four six-tonner vehicles for removing the debris along the procession route.
Accompanied by senior officials, Mr. Somesh Kumar on Thursday visited the route to be taken by the procession and inspected arrangements at Balapur, Chandrayangutta, Charminar, Begum Bazar and Moazzam Jahi Market.
Several encroachments at M.J. Market by fruit vendors were removed. To ensure hygiene on the immersion day, 19 mobile toilets are being put up at important junctions and the regular ones would also be made available without any charge.
Different road stretches that were affected during the recent rains are being repaired and the task of potholes filling was already taken up, he said adding that required arrangements were also being put in place at various immersion points. Apart from maintenance of streetlighting along the various immersion procession routes, temporary lighting and lamp posts were being arranged, he added.
