Rayalaseema on Thursday observed a complete shutdown in protest against Vijayawada being chosen as the capital of AP. Educational institutions and business establishments remained closed for the day demanding that the capital be located in Kurnool.
Rayalaseema development forum chairman Justice P Lakshman Reddy said the region had once again fallen "victims of politics of affluence". "Neither the ruling Telugu Desam Party nor the opposition YSR Congress has shown any serious commitment towards developing backward regions. All are pro-rich," he alleged.
Rayalaseema Rajadhani Sadhana Samiti general secretary Bojja Dasaratha Rami Reddy flayed both the parties for joining hands to "please" MLAs from coastal Andhra. "Development projects which the government announced in lieu of a capital for Rayalaseema can't be implemented even in the next 25 years. These projects are only rhetoric," Rami Reddy said.
