Watch Bathukamma Celebrations Live Streaming
Hyderabad: Bathukamma is a ten day festival that begins on the closed moon day of the Telugu Bhadrapada month, which is far and wide celebrated in Telangana state. This festival just falls before the festival of Dushera or Dasara. Significantly, this festival begins soon after the ending of monsoons.
During this festival, Goddess Gauri is worshipped by the name Bathukamma. The wordBathukamma in the local Telugu language literally means "Mother Goddess, Come Alive!" This is the festival of colours and the flowers. The flowers are arranged in a conical pattern that signifies the mother goddess and is called the Bathukamma.
The last day of the celebrations is known as Saddula Bathukamma. It marks the culmination of week-long festivities that are being organised on a grand scale in 10 districts. Meanwhile, the government recently launched a global online digital campaign through Google, Facebook and YouTube platforms to promote Telangana’s unique floral festival. This is getting good response with nearly six lakh hits received already. Telanganites living in various countries are sharing the photos and videos of Bathukamma celebrations on the Facebook page set up by the State government. A special website with information, details and videos about the festival was also launched.
