TS Bathukamma Festival Ends With a Grand Show
Hyderabad: Saddula Bathukamma was celebrated across Telangana marking the culmination of nine-day festivities. The entire Tank Bund area turned into a sea of humanity and the area was full of fragrance of flowers and lights. Women, children and men came in large numbers and participated in the gala function.
As the Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and the Governor ESL Narsimhan reached the venue with their family members, balloons were released in the air and the entire sky looked colourful. A floating Bathukamma in the Hussain Sagar caught the attention of the people.
While the Chief Minister and the Governor greeted the people on the occasion of Bathukamma and Dasara festival, Vimala Narasimhan, wife of the Governor, Shobha, wife of the Chief Minister, and wives of politicians and top bureaucrats played Bathukamma.
A huge stage was erected on the Tank Bund with a Kakatiya style arch and Bathukamma was kept in the centre of the stage. The Governor was inquisitive about the preparation of Bathukamma and as KCR’s daughter Kavitha came on the stage with Bathukumma on her head, the Governor lifted the plate from her head, examined it and gave it back to her. The Chief Minister later explained to the Governor about the festival in detail.
Cultural programmes like Yaksha Ganam, Oggudolu were played and Kalakruthi and Gussadi Gond artistes performed in front of the main stage. The entire programme was webcast. 12 LED screens were erected at various points for the benefit of the general public.
Earlier, about 25,000 women mostly from the DWACRA groups, gathered at the LB Stadium where Bathukuammas of various sizes were arranged with 35 tonnes of flowers. The LB Stadium was transformed into a place of frenzied activity.
In the evening around 4 pm a rally led by Kavitha and Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy was flagged off from the stadium. The rally culminated at Tank Bund and immersed the Bathukammas in Hussain Sagar amidst laser show and massive display of fireworks. About 16 tableaux depicting the state culture, temples, heritage, flora and fauna were taken out from L B Stadium to Tank Bund. The I&PR Tableau with sports persons Malavath Poorna who climbed the Mount Everest, Badminton aces Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu and Jwala Gutta and sportswomen Soundarya on board, Flower Car’ exquisitely decorated by the GHMC and the ‘Jagruthi’ tableau of Telangana Jagruthi founded by Kavitha caught the attention of the people.
Governor Narasimhan released a booklet on ‘Telangana Flower Festival’ and the Inaugural issue of the State Government’s official monthly ‘Telangana’, which will be brought out by the I&PR Department of the state. KCR felicitated the only surviving artist of 12-step flute, Mogilaiah on the occasion. The Chief Minister’s residence too buzzed with activity on Thursday afternoon as Kavitha and wives of IT Minister K T Rama Rao and Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao along with guests celebrated the festival.
Seeing the grand scale of celebrations this year, a Telangana cultural organisation is planning to celebrate the state's 'Bathukamma' floral festival in over 25 countries next year.
The Government had sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the festival celebrations all over the state. Police had made elaborate arrangements to ensure that no untoward incident takes place. 4 Drone aircraft were used for monitoring the celebrations.
