Jayalalithaa’s food being tested in jail

Bangalore: The food being provided to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa at Parappana Agrahara jail is being tested for its safety, before it is served. As Jayalalithaa happens to be a VVIP prisoner with high threat perception, the jail authorities are taking no chances.

After conviction she may have lost her ‘Z’ category security, but being a VVIP convict with a reportedly high threat perception; the food meant for Jayalalithaa, which gets cooked along with other prisoners in the Central Prison kitchen, is reportedly tasted before being served to her by a prison officer of the rank of superintendent to ensure that it is safe for human consumption.

“Her food requirement is very simple. She has brown bread, idlis, curd rice and apple. While the prison manual prescribes that she can only have prison food, unless the court directs to an alternative arrangement; her security requires that it should be tasted before being served to her,” said a top government officer on condition of anonymity.
