Latest Tamil film “Poriyaalan”, hit the screens today i.e on 5 September. Directed by Thanukumar “Poriyaalan” is written by Manimaran and produced by Vetrimaaran. The film features Harish Kalyan and Anandhi in the leading roles, Velraj is the cinematographer for the venture. Anandhi, who has previously appeared in Telugu films and in Kayal (2014), is playing the lead role. “Poriyaalan” showcases the dark side of real estate with some commercial thrills all around. Harish plays Saravanan a dutiful civil engineer who wants to make it big in construction, and the youngster fits the role quite comfortably. Thanukumar’s choice of script is fresh and something new, for real estate scams have been in the town ever since the boom over 2000’s and he has weaved a story quite amicably. Adding the required thrills and twists, makes the movie watchable enough on the main screen.

Though film got positive reviews from the critics but failed to deliver at the box office. “Poriyaalan” failed to pull crowd to the theaters on its opening day due to the lack of marketing. The occupancy was around 30-35% in the morning. The occupancy picked up little during the evening and night shows to 40-50%. The actual figures of the opening day is not available now but looking at the early reports film would collect more than Rs.45lacs on its opening day. We can say that the overall performance of the “Poriyaalan” on its opening day was poor. The film has two more days of its first weekend and it would definitely want to finish it on a high note. The movie will need more than just “Word of mouth” to pull enough movie goers to the theatres.
