Sathya-Mia George’s “Amara Kaaviyam“, hit the screens today i.e on 5 September. Directed by Jeeva Shankar, “Amara Kaaviyam” deals with teenage romance and is set in the 80s. The film has Thambi Ramaiah and Ananth Nag in supporting roles. Its music is composed by Ghibran, while actor Arya (Sathya’s brother) has produced the film under The Show People banner. Critics have given mixed feedback with “Amara Kaaviyam” being termed as melodramatic. Regarding the performances, critics have stated that Sathya needs to improve his acting skills while they appreciated Mia’s performance. The film’s director, who had also handled the cinematography, won accolades for his camera work. Ghibran’s songs and the background scores are the plus points of the film. Despite negetive reviews from the crtics, “Amara Kaaviyam” got good response from the audiences on its opening day. The occupancy was around 40-45% in the morning. The occupancy picked up during the evening and night shows to 60-70%. The actual figures of the opening day is not available now but looking at the early reports film would collect more than Rs.1 crore on its opening day. The film has two more days of its first weekend and it would definitely want to finish it on a high note. The current trend in Tamil Cinema is hovering around Gangsters/Horror flicks for some time now, let’s hope ‘Amara Kaaviyam’ to bring the old flavor in a new style and make some great record on the box office.
