Supreme Court cancels 1000 Medical seats in AP and Telangana

Hyderabad: The Supreme Court on Thursday granted relief to some medical colleges in the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in which nearly 500 medical seats were cancelled by Medical Council of India (MCI) on the pretest of lacking infrastructure.

Giving the directions, the apex court has directed the colleges to have to give an undertaking that they would comply with MCI norms and should also furnish a bank guarantee which would be forfeited in the event of failure.
Some medical colleges in the country including that of these two States complained to the court that they filed to reports of the Central Government well in advance, the MCI refused to grant approval on frivolous grounds while otherwise in the Government medical colleges.

With this direction, students in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States have a big relief as the candidates have prospects in the second phase of counselling. The second phase of counselling will begin anytime as the process has to be completed by the end of this September.

The directions of the court will be applicable to only petitioners for the private collages as the MCI has cancelled over 1000 seats in these two States both in government and private colleges.
