BJP MLA demands dress code for men on Goa beaches

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Michael Lobo on Wednesday demanded a dress code for men on Goa beaches along with a ban on drinking with bottles in the beach.
He called on these regulations in an endeavor to promote the state as best destination in Asia.
"There are ladies, especially the newly-married couples who find it very odd and inconvenient to have a swim in between all these men who are with their underwear...... there is a swimming trunk that they can wear. It is easily available on all the shops. Let them buy that and venture while wearing it. It is much undisciplined; if you look at these men you will not feel like coming on the beach," Lobo said.
"Also drinking with bottles in the sea is also not acceptable. They just break the bottles and those who are walking without slippers hurt themselves. There have been so many incidents where people have to be rushed to the hospital," he added.
Lobo further said that there should be discipline on the beach.
"IRB police sub inspector should be given power to 'challan' such people so as to bring discipline on the beach. Boards have to come up at the entrance of beach, Do's and don'ts. It is there all over the world internationally," said Lobo.
"When we are thinking to promote our nation as the best all over the nation or Asia, we have to have discipline otherwise nobody will say that this is the best destination," he added.
Goa Public Works Department Minister Sudhin Dhavalikar had earlier this month said that the wearing of bikinis should be banned on the public beaches, which drew criticism from party leaders and women rights activists.
