Vishal, Varu and Yuvan join hands

Bridging the gap between cinema and theatre, Varalakshmi Sarathkumar, Vishal and Yuvan Shankar Raja will be joining hands to stage an adaptation of the popular musical Chicago.

The play will be staged in the city on October 11 and 12. Talking to Times of India, Varalakshmi, who is co-producing the show along with Vishal and his production house, says, "We are excited about the show. Every year, we stage a production and we wanted to do something different this time around. That is why we thought of bringing Yuvan on board to do the music. Although the genre doesn't lend itself much to experimentation and adaptation musically, Yuvan has done a brilliant job in orchestrating it and adding his own touch to these original compositions."

Jeffrey Vardon, who frequently collaborates with Varalakshmi on stage productions, will be choreographing the show.
She adds, "The lead cast comprises Casius Leon, Amritha and Aishwarya. Although this is not the first time that Chicago has come alive on the Chennai stage, this production will be grander and better."

Ask her why she will not be playing a role, as is customary in all their productions, and she says, "This time, I will not be doing a role because I will be away shooting for Bala sir's film, Tharai Thappattai. In fact, I am getting back to the city only on the day of the show. Because I was shooting, there was no time for rehearsals."
