Rs 20,000 Will be Fined for Smoking in public

New Delhi: Smoking in public could earn a person a fine of 20,000 rupees as suggested by the expert panel set up by the Health Ministry on tobacco control.

The panel has also suggested raising the age limit for consumption and banning the sale of loose cigarettes. Final recommendations are yet to be drafted.

There were also suggestions for increasing the fine from Rs 5,000 to Rs 50,000 now, on manufacturers not carrying pictorial warning signs on cigarette packets.
