Lingaa Trailer Review

Lingaa Trailer Review

Superstar Rajinikanth Lingaa trailer has been unveiled just a while ago at the audio launch event on progress in Chennai. Apparently, the film is about a collector taking challenge to build a dam to assist people, which is opposed by villain batch who have other plans. Rajinikanth rocked as collector in class outfits. Jagapathi Babu is seen just for fraction of seconds. Both Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Shetty appeared chubby. They have again kept second Rajini role under wraps.

Except for Rajinikanth factor, we feel like missing something in the trailer. Apart from few Rajinikanth styles, we don’t find real Rajinism. This is just a trailer. Let’s hope, the film that is releasing on December 12th won’t disappoint us.

Haider Movie Review

Haider Movie Review

Release date : 02 Oct 2014
Starring: Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Tabu
Producer : Vishal Bhardwaj
Director : Vishal Bhardwaj
Music Director : Vishal Bhardwaj

Story:

The story of Haider is set in Kashmir, where Dr. Hilal Meer and his wife Ghazala (Tabu) live. One fine day, Hilal brings home an injured militant for treatment, which lands him into trouble and then he disappears leaving Ghazala all alone.
Ghazala now starts living with Hilal’s brother Khurram (Kay Kay), who is in love with his Bhabhijaan. Ghazala’s son Haider (Shahid) arrives home, only to know that his mother and Chacha are getting married. Haider now decides to take revenge and find out where his father is. Will Haider be successful in his revenge forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points:

Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj has already proven his worth with films like Omkara, Maqbool and Kaminey. This film is no less and also adds just another feature in his cap. The movie has the perfect blend of a stunning emotions. Speaking of performances, it is only Vishal who can bring the best out of Shahid Kapoor. The actor is brilliant in every scene and portrays the role of a man on a mission with perfection.

But the one person that takes this poetry in motion to yet another level is Tabu. Calling this her best performance till date wouldn’t be wrong. Kay Kay Menon too plays his part extremely well, and outshines in every scene. Irrfan, may have done a cameo, but every time he enters the screens, he takes the scene to just another level.

Minus Points :

Even after such perfect casting, the only flaw is Shraddha Kapoor who seems to be lost in the plot. Her performance becomes monotonous. Another negative part in the movie is the run-time. Also being a film of a niche genre, not many people will be able to connect with it.

Performances:
When it comes to performances, everyone is on the same page in this film. Shahid Kapoor brings out his genetic brilliance and gives an ace performance. From covering Hamlet’s vulnerability to his anger about deceit, Kapoor delivers it all with breathtaking valor and immense sincerity. He slips from frame to frame, mood to mood with precision and ease that only someone who is convinced and confident can get.

Shraddha Kapoor as Oephilia or Arshiya as in the film, is great. Beautiful, innocent and smooth, she is better than most of her ungrateful roles.

Tabu brings her own to Gertrude. She plays Ghazala with flair and have a haunting quality to her silence. When her son tells her she has two faces, the heartbreak shows on her face. Her beauty is such in the film that it reflects her state of mind. Her happiness speaks through her eyes, her pain shows even before she has slapped her son to express the same. Only Tabu could have brought alive Gertrude in Ghazala.

Irrfan Khan in few scenes in the film, is pitch perfect. He is the Quintessential Shakespearan prop that drives Hamlet and the actor is at his wicked best. Treat yourself if you can replicate his ‘Badla’. So much said in one word!

Kay Kay Menon is far away from his last few stints and gives Claudius (Khurram) his own color. I loved how his demeanor shifted in the presence of different people. Earnestly loving towards Ghazala, he is genuinely venomous towards Haider and Menon does it with utmost brilliance.

Narendra Jha has little to play but is smashing in his minuscule part.

Analysis:

A humanitarian doctor finds himself fighting for life in Kashmir. When his wife asks why is he treating a militant, he smiles. She asks, “Kiski taraf ho aap”, he replies, “Zindagi Ki.” The doctor goes missing and his son Haider, a poetry student from Aligarh returns to find his realities transformed. There is a translucent maze through which he watches his mother laugh without inhibitions, while his chacha dances around with childlike mirth, singing a folksy Kahmiri lullaby. In that one scene, Bhardwaj and Peer lay out the basic themes of the play. The first hour of the film tracks a hapless Haider frantically looking for his father, refusing to believe he is dead. The most striking scene that shapes his mental state is when he and his mother discuss the aftermath of his father’s disappearance.

Tabu in a very powerful scene tells Haider, how repulsive and inattentive his Abbuji was. She elaborately describes her relationship with her husband expressing how he smelled of death and blood. It made her throw up. And in the same vein she explains how Haider was all she had and ever will have to look forward to.

Oedipus Complex is not evidently delved into but in Shahid’s words from his interview to Koimoi, it is running in undertones, latently present for the takers. The sexual tension between Ghazala and Haider are seen in hints.

There are fleeting references of it. I mention this to stay clear of the fact that this isn’t why I call the film bold. It is Bhardwaj’s ability to retain the soul of Hamlet changing its form so drastically that mesmerises me.

The real enthusiasm of the play is revealed only when the Ghost walks into the scene but in Haider, the conversations with the ‘Ghost’ doesn’t drive the narrative. The monologues are reformed adequately and retained mostly but compared to Maqbool and Omkara, Haider risks deviating more than the usual. The constant harping on the word Chutzpah is for a reason!

And finally Haider is definitely larger than Hamlet in terms of volume it speaks of. A state torn between the animosity of two warring nations, Haiders are not a rare sight amidst the unrest of the Valley. Infusing the drama of disappearing people and giving it a relevant voice, Haider ups the Shakespearean drama, gives it a relatable look and sets it in a time of utter stagnation and helplessness, making it a consistent, coherent and engaging story.

Technical Aspects:
‘Haider’ is a brilliant adaptation of Shakespeare’s novel, ‘Hamlet’. For the ones, who have not read the book yet, they too wont feel lost in the film. Vishal has very neatly added his own art in the film in the form of Kashmir. Leaving aside the city’s scenic beauty, Vishal rather focuses on the dilemma that the people here go through.

All the songs are awesome and well fitted in the plot, especially ‘Bismil’, which is brilliant composition. Dialogues written by Vishal are amazing, especially the way in which Haider expresses the problems of Kashmir by saying ‘Hum Hain Ya Hum Nahi’ and ‘To Free Or Not To Free.’

Verdict:

On the whole, Haider is one work of art with creativity at its best. Vishal Bhardwaj brings out stunning performances from Shahid Kapur and Tabu who take this film to another level. All those who like hard hitting films with an edge, this is one film you should not miss.

Bang Bang Movie Review

Bang Bang Movie Review

Release date: 2 October 2014
Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Danny Denzongpa
Director:  Siddharth Anand
Music: Vishal-Shekhar
Timesofap Rating: 3.0/5.0

Hrithk Roshan’s Bang Bang trailer has created quite an interest among the audience. Also starring Katrina Kaif, this film is directed by Siddharth Anand and has hit the screens in over 5000 screens world wide. Let’s now see how this action entertainer is.

Story:-
Omar Zafar (Danny Denzongpa), the most wanted criminal by the Interpol is jailed in London. One fine day, Omar manages to escapes from the high security jail. In order to teach everybody a lesson, he assigns Rajvir(Hrithik) to rob the world famous Kohinoor diamond which kept in London.
Rajvir successfully robs the diamond, and when Omar Zafar sends his people to collects the diamond, Rajvir escapes from them with the help of Harleen(Katrina Kaif). Who is this Harleen ? Why does Rajvir denies giving back the diamond ? What is his connection with Omar ? For answers to all these questions, you need to watch the film on the big screen.
Plus Points:-
This is a start to finish Hrithi Roshan film. All his hardcore fans get to see their matinee idol in his true spirits. Right from his dances, fights and bulked up body, Hrithik shows it all. Katrina Kaif ably supports Hrithik in his act, and their chemistry looks sizzling.
All the so called action sequences, that have been showcased, look stunning. Production values are quite good, and take the film to another level. Climax of the film is quite interesting and specially the car chase sequence that has been designed is in Hollywood style.
Minus Points:-
As we all know that this film is the remake of the Hollywood film ‘Knight and Day’. Sadly, this flick no where close to the original. There is absolute no logic or flow that is showcased. This films has a water thin story line which is only covered with thrills and stunts.
For the entire first half, it is only Hrithik’s heroics, and his so called show off that takes the center stage. The way Katrina’s character travels with Hrithik is sometime unjustifiable. First half is filled with songs which are unnecessary. As simple line and a even simple mission is just carried for three long hours, stretching the movie to the core.

Technical Aspects:-

Technically Bang Bang is quite good. All the locations are stunning, and quite new for a Bollywood flicks. Camerawork is awesome and showcases the locales in a superb manner. Production values are quite rich as the makers have not compromised on giving this flick a grand look.
Yet another major drawback of the film is the music. Vishal-Shekhar’s music score is below par, as none of the songs fail to register. Coming to the director, Siddharth Anand who has made films like Salaam Namaste and Anjaana Anjaani in the past has given the flick only style and grand look. Except for the stunts, he has lost out on every other department.

Verdict:-
As the saying goes ‘All that glitters is not Gold’ same is the case for Bang Bang. Excepts for the high octane action scenes shown in the trailers, there is nothing interesting in this flick. How ever, keeping Hrithik and Katrina’s huge craze in mind, and the 5 day long weekend this film might rake in good figures at the box office.

Govindudu Andarivadele Movie Review

Govindudu Andarivadele Movie Review

Star Cast : Ram Charan , Kajal
Director : Krishna Vamsi
Producer : Bandla Ganesh
Music : Yuvan Shankar Raja
Cinematography : Sameer Reddy
Released on : 1st October, 2014.
Movie Ratings : 3.75/5.0

The trailers of Govindudu Andarivadele have caught on quite well with the audience. Directed by the creative genius Krishna Vamsi, this film has Ram Charan and Kajal in lead roles. After a round of huge promotions, this family entertainer has hit the screens during the festive season today. Let’s see how it is.

Story:-
Abhiram(Ram Charan) is a handsome looking NRI, who is born and brought up in London. Even though he lives abroad, Abhiram loves Indian culture and family values. One fine day, he comes to know about his dad’s past which is related back to a huge family based in India.

In order to fulfill his dad’s dream, Abhiram lands in India. There he finds out that his roots are based in the joint family of Balaraju(Prakash Raju). Rest of the story is as to how Abhiram manages to successfully enter the family, and wins the love of everyone.

Plus Points:-
I would like to start off by congratulating Krishna Vamsi, Ram Charan and Bandla Ganesh for bringing us this memorable family entertainer. One needs to salute their conviction that even in the days of formulaic commercial cinema, they have gone ahead and dared to make a heart touching family entertainer.

All those who had doubts about how Ram Charan will do an out and out family film, need to watch GAV to clear their doubts. Charan is just outstanding in the film. Right from his look to his performance, he has owned this film and has given his career best performance. He surprises you with his emotional acting capabilities and is mind blowing during the last half an hour.

Yet another major highlight of the film is Kajal Agarwal. She looks ultra glamours, and shares a sizzling chemistry with Charan. Needless to say you can just be in awe of her timeless beauty, and the way she has performed. Credit should also go to Krishna Vamsi for showing her like never before. Prakash Raj’s inclusion in the last minute is bang on. The makers should be credited for selecting him, as he brings in a lot of depth to this film. As always, Jayasudha gives a decent performance and nicely supports Prakash Raj.

Once again, Srikanth proves what a talented actor he is. He suits his role perfectly and delivers a superb supporting role. Kamalinee Mukherjee looks beautiful in Indian attire and nicely compliments Srikanth. Young actor Adarsh is superb in his negative role, and gives Charan a tough fight. Second half of the film has the necessary family emotions, and especially the last half an hour is heart touching. The way Krishna Vamsi has showcased family emotions and human values is simply superb.

Minus Points:-
First half of the film is a bit slow, when compared to the second. If the makers would have added some comedy, it would have been more entertaining for the audience.

The love track between Srikanth and Kamaleni Mukherjee is not justified much, and has been hurried on to us. Story of the film is quite old and is predictable most of the times.

Technical Aspects:
Like in any Krishna Vamsi film, even GAV is full of life and celebration. Credit should go to him for bringing back the missing family values and human emotions on screen. The way he extracts performances from all his artists, is just outstanding. Camerawork by Sameer Reddy is stunning, as he presents the village atmosphere in a superb light. The way the sets, costumes and other properties have been used brings a lot of life to the film.

Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music is decent, and goes with the flow of the film. Fights composed by Peter Heins are entertaining. Dialogues are written with lot of human values, and bring in a lot of depth to the film. Production values are top notch, and Bandla Ganesh should be given credit for the uncompromising visuals. Screenplay of the film is quite good and keeps you engaged right throughout.

Verdict:-
With Govindudu Andarivadele, it is once again proved that Krishna Vamsi is a master at making family entertainers. He brings out stunning human relationships, and sketches an entertaining family drama. Charan’s career best performance, Kajal’s glamour and superb performances from the supporting cast, make this film a must watch for the entire family.

Govindudu Andarivadele Pre Release Report

All eyes are focused on the film of the season, Govindudu Andarivadele. Expectations on this film are pretty high with everyone hoping for a big hit with this big flick. Recent failures of big movies like Aagadu and Rabhasa has put Telugu Cinema's business on a slump. So a big hit is crucial at this point to boost the spirits. Will GAV live up to the expectations?

As per our sources, the film has shaped out well and will impress the family audiences very much with emotional drama and loveable scenes between the family setup. This is not a tragedy. It has a happy ending that will make the audience leave the theaters with a feel good experience.

Krishna Vamsi's trademark picturization of songs is going to be a major asset said our sources. All in all, GAV is carrying positive reports from the insiders as well as industry people. We have to wait and see how well the masses receive it. The range will depend upon how they embraces the film.

Jeeva Movie Review

Jeeva Movie Review

Staring : Vishnu, Sri Divya, Soori
Director : Suseenthiran
Music : D. Imman
Production : The Show People, The Next Big Film, Vennila Kabadd

Films with sport as the backdrop have plunged Tamil Cinema, especially in the last decade. There has been a flurry of films with a pinch of difference between each other, in context to the storyline. Suseenthiran teams up with Vishnu Vishal for Jeeva, a film which stresses on the darker sides of the game.

Unlike usual sport-based films, Jeeva has a professional angle at the game with real cricketers who play textbook shots and follow the basic technique. Though VFX is used at some places, the aura of an original cricket game is brought about to an extent, making it an enjoyable experience when it comes to watching the matches onscreen. While the cricketing side of Jeeva is its trump card, the romantic portions take away the excitement. The scenes in the first half between Vishnu and Sri Divya are unnecessarily stitched into the screenplay. Suseenthiran does keep them to their limits, as the screenplay immediately shifts itself to the main plot when the film starts to drag. Coming into the second half, Jeeva is an emotional ride with Soori’s funny moments peppered all over it. There is intensity, believable cricket, fun, family and everything else you need to have in the mix. You will love the cameo at the end, for it has a cute little twist embedded with it.

Being a cricketer in his early days has helped Vishnu mould into his character with elan. He is jovial when it comes to the lighter moments, and saves his performance for the moving moments in the second half. Cricket is something which naturally comes to this guy, and that is what makes Jeeva different from the other films – an organic touch which is very essential. Sri Divya is adequate and pulls off a decent performance with her expressions at the brink. Lakshman is an apt pick for the role, rather than going for a famous face to gain popularity. Ravi as the coach is firm, along with the rest of the cast who are handpicked by Suseenthiran.

Madhie’s camera captures the sequences beautifully, as the noticeable flares add a special feel to the songs. Editing by Ruben is crisp with a running time of just over 2 hours. Imman’s songs are flushed into the narrative, but his re-recording for the intense portions is truly hair-raising.

Suseenthiran comes up with an appreciable show in Jeeva. His laudable paperwork is propelled even higher with the help of Vishnu’s clap-worthy performance. The director has a subtle storytelling technique, which makes the film a good one on the whole. Jeeva may not be an inspiring film, but it does throw some light on the issues which are lesser known to the common public. Give this a watch, for it is definitely worth one.

Loukyam Movie Review

Loukyam Movie Review

Loukyam movie review,  Gopichand Loukyam movie review, Loukyam review, Loukyam telugu movie review, Loukyam movie ratings, Loukyam movie review 2014, Loukyam movie talk, Loukyam movie collections

Release date : Sep 26, 2014
Rating : 3.5/5.0
Director : Sriwass
Producer : V. Anand Prasad
Music Director : Anoop Rubens
Starring : Gopichand, Rakul Preet Singh

Story:-
Venky(Gopichand) goes against Warangal’s dreaded don Babji(Sampath) by helping his sister get married to his best friend. An upset Babji starts looking for Venky, who in turn runs away to Hyderabad. There he falls in love with Chandrakala(Rakul Preet).

Twist in the tale arises when Venky comes to know about a stunning truth about Chandrakala. What is that truth ? How will he escape from the evil clutches of Babji and marry Chandrakala ? That forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points:-
The entire set up, story and the way this flick has been executed is quite good. Loukyam is an complete image makeover for Gopichand, and he passes with flying colors in this family entertainer. He looks dashing and carries the entire film on his shoulders. He is pretty good in the comedy scenes, and showcases his talent aptly.

Rakul Preet is yet another plus for this film. She looks gorgeous, and nicely compliments Gopichand in every department. Once again, Brahmanandam entertains as Sippy. Some of his scenes with Chandra Mohan and Hamsa Nandini have come out extremely well. But it is 30 Years industry Pruthvi, who steals the show with his hilarious comedy during the end.

Music of the film is yet another bonus, and all the songs have been shot quite well. Second half of the film is quite entertaining and has been executed well. Hamsa Nandini adds the necessary glamor and comedy quotient to the film. Raghu Babu and Roller Raghu bring in decent laughs.

Minus Points:-
Once again, story of the film is quite routine and has nothing new in it. Even though the first half has a few laughs and romance, the actual story kicks off only during the interval point.

Even though the second half starts with a bang, routine family set up and comedy come in to the picture. At least one song in the first half could have been easily chopped off. After a point, the film gets predictable and a bit lengthy.

Technical Aspects:-
Camerawork in the film is quite decent, and showcases the film in a good light. Director Srivas should also be applauded for the way he has presented Gopichand in a handsome and entertaining way. Even though he chooses a predictable story, the way he executes the film with ample entertainment is pretty good. Dialogues are quite simple and have been written decently.

As said earlier, screenplay of the film is a bit slow and gets predictable at times. Music of the film is good as Anup Rubens has given some lovable and peppy tunes. Having said that, the way songs have been placed leaves a lot to be desired. Editing is quite good but could have gone away with a few unnecessary scenes in the second half.

Verdict:-
On the whole, Loukyam is a decent entertainer with comedy working in major parts. Gopichand’s acting, hilarious comedy by Pruthvi and Brahmanandam in the second half are basic plus. On the flip side, even this film also suffers from the same tried and tested formula of the routine family entertainers. But who cares, Loukyam provides you the much needed fun and relief than the past few releases, and will nicely be lapped up by the family audience.

JAI HIND 2 Audio Review

CAST AND CREW
Production: Arjun
Cast: Arjun, Simran Kapoor, Surveen Chawla
Direction: Arjun
Screenplay: Arjun
Story: Arjun
Music: Arjun Jeniya
Background score: Arjun Jeniya
Cinematography: HC Venugopal

Jai Hind 2 is an upcoming commercial movie directed, acted and produced by 'Action King' Arjun. Music for the film is composed by Arjun Janya

Adada Nenjil Adada
Singers: Karthik, Saindhavi
Lyrics: N/A
The album begins with a breezy duet amidst guitars, string section and relaxing orchestration.  The melancholic violin solo in the interludes has been presented well in the background of flamenco guitar.

Ayaa Padichavare
Singers: Gana Bala, Rajesh Krishnan
Lyrics: N/A
This is a fun filled track with folk singing mixed with contemporary orchestration. The track has a typical sad feeling interspersed with fun moments. Gana Bala does a good job in vocals with his peculiar voice. However, the track changes to preachy mode with Rajesh Krishnan’s voice in the middle.

Ivan Yaarivan
Singers: Karthik, Priya
Lyrics: N/A
A paced up composition with a modern rock guitar support and good vocals. However, the track lacks the punch and thumping feel much needed for a typical duet.

Mazhaye Malarage
Singers: Ravi Varma
Lyrics: N/A
The finale arrives with a laid back solo sung well by Ravi Varma. Despite having the 90s nostalgic feel in terms of orchestration and presentation, the interludes are decently woven with lilting flute touches and high flavor of classicism.

Verdict: Jai Hind 2 doesn't pack the commercial punch its predecessor had.

Super Ranga Movie Review

Super Ranga Movie Review

Real star Upendra is back with the 2nd movie of the year titled Super Ranga. The movie is the remake of the blockbuster hit Telugu movie Kick. His last film Brahma got very positive response from the audience. Super Ranga is highly anticipated movie for the Uppi fans. The movie has been released to coincide with the actor's 46th birthday.

Movie: Super Ranga
Rating: 3.0/5.0
Director: Sadhu Kokila
Producer: K Manju
Story: Vakkantham Vamsi
Music: Arjun Janya
Cinematography: Ashok Kashyap

Here are things you must know before you book your tickets

The film is the kannada remake of the Telugu hit Kick that starred Ravi Teja in the lead role.
The Kannada rights of the film was first procured by N Kumar to make a film with Sudeep. The film did not happen and the rights fell on the lap of Manju.
Uppi's movie is releasing in over 170 centres across Karnataka
The movie is being touted as a perfect birthday feast for all Uppi fans
The film is producer K Manju's 36th film
Director Sadhu Kokila has made a few changes to the script
Super Ranga has Upendra and Kriti Kharbanda paired for the first time.

Story:

The film is about a man who believes in doing only things that give him a kick. Depsite idiosyncrasies he and Kriti embark upon a whirlwind romance, until one day he breaks up with her for a new 'Kick' and walks away never to return. Meanwhile, Kriti meets a police officer as her match. On a train journey, she narrates her story while he recounts how one person is playing too smart trying to evade arrest after committing heinous crimes. What happens next? Will Uppi and Kriti meet again? If yes, under what circumstances forms the crux of the story.

Analysis:

Although the movie is a remake, Sadhu Kokila has added some masala elements to make it more suitable to the Kannada audience. There are a couple of scenes which is very 'Uppi'ish. Upendra is talented and can pull of any role with ease and this he has demonstrated that in Super Ranga. Kriti has done her job well. Comedy is the key elements and a big plus in the movie.

Final Word: Uppigintha ruchi bere illa. We think Super Ranga is better than the Hindi remake of the Telugu Kick that starred Salman Khan.

Aranmanai Movie Review

Aranmanai Movie Review

 Movie: ARANMANAI
Rating: 3.0/5.0
Staring : Sundar C, Vinay, Hansika, Andrea, Rai Lakshmi, Kovai Sarala, Santhanam
Director : Sundar C
Music : Baradwaj, Karthik Raja
Production : Vision I medias

Horror comedies are a good genre to watch on the big screen, if packaged with the right ingredients and showcased in a decent manner. Sundar C does just that with Aranmanai, by picking a good script with a strong cast as the spearhead.

Though Aranmanai follows an already treaded path in terms of its screenplay, Sundar C manages to fit in the right elements to appeal to most sections of the audiences. There are cheap thrills, slapstick comics and women objectifications on one hand. But on the other, there are strong performances, appreciable commercial writing and some laugh worthy scenes with Santhanam at the centrestage. The best part of Aranmanai is the fact that it is a film with the female characters at the forefront, and the male ones underplaying themselves in the background.

Sundar C does hold on to revenge as the central crux but yes, it is the way he puts things on screen which do the trick. After a wavered first half, the film turns well at the halfway mark and moves at a likable pace in the second. Belted with a standout performance from Hansika and a glamour bonanza from Rai Laxmi, Sundar C ropes in the right person in Andrea to play the matured role. Vinay and the director himself are just propellers in the story, nevertheless they have their own moments at the right times. The rest of the supporting cast are adequate, importantly Kovai Sarala and Manobala who bring the roof down along with Santhanam.

Technically, Aranmanai just passes muster with average cinematography and fine editing. The VFX is an eyesore, resulting in a big setback to the film. Bharadwaj's music too, mars the effect that Sundar C has created with his colorful picturizatons. However, his re recording is acceptable with the usual ooohs and aaahs.

On the whole, Aranmanai might not scare you much. Nor does it have something out of the box. But it successfully sets out doing what it intended to. The three girls in the movie might just be the icing on the cake. Go for this one if you liked the last flick in the genre - Yaamiruka Bayamey.

Analysis:

Aranmanai appears to be another winner, joining the bandwagon of horror-comedy films including Chandramukhi, Knachana, Pizza, Yaamirukka Bayamey and others.

Equally entertaining and scary, first half of Aranmanai is well carried by the comedy by Kovai Sarala, Manobala, Santhanam and Raai Lakshmi till Hansika entered before interval. Equalling the screen time and justifying the characters importance Sundar C, Hansika and Andrea takes care of the remaining half, while Vinay Rai justifies his role.

Though Hansika played the lead role as 'Pei', Raai Lakshmi scores more attention in the movie.

Final Verdict: Paisa Vasool Horror-Comedy-Thriller...

Starring :Aditya Roy Kapur,Parineeti Chopra

Cinematography : Himman Dhamija
Edited by: Meghna Sen
Ratings: 2.5/5.0

Story:
Gulrez (Parineeti Chopra), who stays with her father in Hyderabad, has been rejected by a string of boys for being unable to pay Dowry. This breaks her heart at many instances and she decides to leave all this behind and go to America for future studies. To get the money for studies, she and her father leave for Lucknow to get married to a guy quoting the highest dowry price and then file the anti-dowry case against them to get lump sum alimony.
However, in the process, she meets Tariq (Aditya Roy Kapoor), who is inturn a gentleman, sensitive and loves her for the person she is.
Now will Gulrez get married to Tariq for what he is? Or will Tariq too demand dowry from her? Will she be able to pursue her higher studies in America? Forms the rest of the story…
Positive Points:
Daawat-e-ishq may sound like a love story, but it infact is a movie conveying a strong social message. After playing a drunkard in his last two ventures, actor Aditya Roy Kapur has donned a new and sober avatar in this one and we must say, he does full justice to his Lucknowi character. Parineeti Chopra’s performance is just ok. However, the best of all is Anupam Kher. He is convincing in every scene and displays a strong acting prowess yet again.
Another good part about the film is the involvement of some mouth-watering delicacies of Hyderabad. They surely tempt you to go the city and actually taste these.
Negative Points:
The movie, without a doubt, has an extremely weak plot. Parineeti, who has always stolen the show in her movies, fails to impress us in this one. She has surely not put in her 100% and this can be called the weakest performance of her career. The chemistry between Parineeti and Aditya seems to be forced and the romantic parts too don’t gel well with the plot.
The climax is disappointing and a stretched second half makes the film a boring affair. Also a few parts of the film have a forceful involvement of romance, which just not needed. If wish the makers would have concentrated more on the message part, than the not-so-important romance.
Technical Aspects:
Director Habibi Faisal is a great filmmaker, which has been proved through his previous movies, but this one does not showcase his best works. The songs of the film are good. The title track is the best of the lot. The rest of songs too are worth a listen, but are just not placed well in the screenplay. The screenplay of the film is stretched and not really praise-worth.
While the first half was a little watchable, the second half turns out to be extremely boring and fast-paced. The boring lecture on dowry in the second part will definitely make the viewers’ take a nice power nap. Cinematography is decent as the camera covers the parts of Hyderabad and the scrumptious delicacies extremely well.
The editing could have been more crisp.
Verdict:
On a whole, Daawat-E-Ishq serves a bland saucer, which is neither delicious nor in fine fettle. However, it sure can be watched one time because of a social message it offers and Aditya’s amazing performance.

Mahesh Babu Aagadu Movie Review

Aagadu Movie Review

Starring : Mahesh Babu, Tamannaah
Director Srinu Vaitla
Producer : Anil Sunkara, Ram Achanta, Gopichand Achanta
Music Director : S. Thaman
Release date : Sep 19, 2014
Rating : 3.25/5

The successful combination of Mahesh Babu and Sreenu Vaitla is back once again to entertain the audience with Aagadu. Tamannah is cast as the female lead, and 14 Reels are the producers. After a huge round of promotions, the film has opened in over 2000 screens today. Let’s now see how the film is.

Story:-
Encounter specialist Shankar (Mahesh Babu) is posted to a small town called Bukkapattanam. The entire area is dominated by a dreaded don called Damodar (Sonu Sood), who runs illegal businesses by threatening the poor. Shankar decides to take things in his hands, and starts planning Damodar’s decline. Midway through, he comes to know about a shocking truth about Damodar, which relates back to his family.

What is that truth ? How does Shankar manage to destroy Damodar and his empire ? and Where does Saroja(Tamannah) and Delhi Suri(Brahmanandam) fit in this entire set up ?. To know answers to all these questions, you need to watch the film on big screen.

Plus Points:-
Aagadu is an out and out Mahesh Babu film. Right from the word go, it is Mahesh’s histrionics which dominate the show completely. As usual, Mahesh looks extremely dashing, and carries out his role of a cop supremely well. The way he goes about his character, and blends himself into the script, is quite amazing. Interesting factor to watch out for is the fun element that he brings in his character, which is filled with punch dialogues and satires.

Tamannah looks gorgeous as the village belle, and is a perfect jodi for Mahesh Babu. First half of the film is highly entertaining, and brings in a lot of fun. Shruthi Haasan’s song is a special bonus to the masses as she oozes sensuous charm and glamour. Brahmanandam brings in decent laughs in the second half, and his dance episode in particular is quite hilarious.

Nasser is superb as the police constable, and his scenes with Mahesh and Vennela Kishore have come out quite well. Songs are entertaining and have also been shot well. Rajendra Prasad, Posani and Ashish Vidhyardhi are decent in their respective roles.

Minus Points:-
As expected, even Aagadu has the same trademark Sreenu Vaitla set up and comedy. The entire second half has been spoofed on his earlier films like Dookudu. Once the so called twists are unleashed, the film becomes predictable.

Climax of the film is quite simple, and is just hurried on to us. Once again, story and narration of the film is routine, and resembles Sreenu Vaitla’s trademark style. Sonu Sood’s negative character is not elevated much, and does not look menacing on screen.

Technical Aspects:-
Music of the film is a huge plus, as Thaman has given superb tunes which go with the flow of the film. All the songs have been shot richly and look superb on screen. Dialogues of the film need a special mention. There are enough punches and satires in the entire film, which will be liked by everyone.

Camerawork is quite good. The visuals which were shown in trailers, look even more better on screen. Production values are good as the makers have spent lavishly for the film. Sreenu Vaitla must be credited for showcasing Mahesh Babu in a super light. He etches an entertaining character for Mahesh, and extracts superb performance from him.

Verdict:-
With Aagadu, Mahesh Babu once again proves his super stardom. Right from the word go, it is Mahesh, Mahesh and only Mahesh throughout the film. Even though this film has routine similarities to Vaitla’s previous flicks, entertaining comedy in the first half coupled with some decent music makes this film an ok family entertainer.

Khoobsurat Movie Review

Khoobsurat Movie Review

Cast: Sonam Kapoor, Fawad Khan, Ratna Pathak, Kirron Kher
Director: Shashanka Ghosh
Producer: Rhea Kapoor, Anil Kapoor
Music director: Sneha Khanwalkar, Badshah and Amal Malik

Shashanka Ghosh’s ‘Khoobsurat’ is a remake of the Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s 1980′s cult classic of the same name. The movie starring Sonam Kapoor and Fawad Khan hits the theatres today and so let’s see whether this contemporary ‘Khoobsurat’ turns out to be a watchable affair or not!

Story:
Dr. Mili Chakraborthy (Sonam) is a happy-go-lucky and lively physiotherapist who gets a chance to go to a royal palace to treat a king in a town in Rajasthan. Mili enthusiastically takes up the offer to go to the palace, but little does she know that the place is all about obeying rules and regulations set up the Queen. Here she meets the King’s son Yuvraj Vikram Singh (Fawad Khan) and falls for him.

Will Mili be able to adjust in a royal environment or will remain a mis-fit thanks to her lively and spontaneously? Will she be able to express her feelings towards the Prince? The answers to these questions are what the rest of ‘Khoobsurat’…

Positive points:

Even though the story in this modern day remake is nowhere close to the original, the plot and the characters are kept the same by the director, but in a fresh and lively manner.

Fashionista Sonam is a style icon and she definitely looks glamorous in the film. She is also capable of making the film colourful and visually appealing, but then that is what she is limited too. The actress still needs to work extremely hard on her acting skills especially her dialogue delivery. She also overdoes the enthusiasm in a few sequences. Kirron Kher is hilarious in her part of a Punjabi mother which also happens to be her forte. She is the only one who adds a little wit in the tedious second half.

Ratna Pathak should have been given a little more scope to showcase her prowess as people were definitely expecting to see her Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai avatar. Apart from Ratna, Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s female fan following wouldn’t be disappointed at all as the actor is an excellent actor and looks hot. The royal character definitely suits his personality.

Sonam and Fawad’s romance is sweet and lovable at a few places.

Negative points:

The film’s editing is hideous and that’s because everytime the audience start to develop a sense of interest in a particular scene, the editor abruptly cuts to a different scene. Another bad part about the film is the background voiceovers given to the lead pair of the film. It is so irritating that one cannot spot out the difference whether the characters are actually speaking or thinking.

Technical aspects:

The movie is not very sound technically! Shashank’s direction is ok and could have been a little better. However, the good part is that the filmmaker has tried to make the film as light-hearted as possible. The screenplay is fine and is engaging and interesting in parts. A few scenes in the movie including the kidnapping episode do not make any sense. While the first half is ok, the second half is tedious. The cinematography is beautiful as the camera covers the royal palaces and the streets of Rajasthan perfectly.

Verdict:

Overall, the light-heartedness of the film and a few lovable moments keep you glued to your seats. Also a few good performances make Khoobsurat a decent watch!
